A concept that was first introduced to us by 19th-century impressionist painters, using the blend of colors to most accurately depict the seasons. As nature is moving through each season, it changes its set of colors. The fresh hues of spring, the soft tints of summer, the earthy tones of autumn, and the vibrant shades of winter. This change in colors occurs because of how light reflects on the natural world. Each time the sun changes its position, it paints the world in a new light. Since we humans are also part of the natural world, it only makes sense to apply these sets of colors to ourselves too.
It wasn't until the 1980s that color theory would become mainstream in fashion. A new idea to analyze a person as cool or warm toned, as well as bright or muted. Understanding how our natural coloring plays off of the color of fabrics we wear, helps us look much more harmonious in our clothing, makeup, and hair. We learn how to shine that natural light we possess in the process of understanding our authentic style and coloring.
